A look into a large scale project process

01

Step One: Getting Cozy (aka: onboarding)

No matter what custom design plan you choose we always start with getting to know you, your mission, and any team members I’ll be working with, as well as gathering the information we need to get started.

02

Step Two: Putting Out Fires (surface level fixes)

If your project includes some immediate surface level problems that we need to design solutions for, we will start with those. I divide this into two steps: 1. Naming the problem and then 2. Taming the problem. This is usually a challenge that is obvious to the whole team and is named in the Getting Cozy process (Step 01).

Step Three: Digging into the Roots and Soil (Research & Analysis)

03

While putting out fires in Step 02 we will discover the tips of root causes and the side effects of polluted soil in your business ecosystem. In this third phase, we follow the threads into root cause analysis, stakeholder research and data synthesizing to find the core problem that needs to be redesigned in your ecosystem for sustainable growth.

04

Step Four: Designing and Testing Solutions

Once we’ve discovered the core challenges in the ecosystem the fun part begins! We dive into the process of solution ideation, prototyping, pilot testing and then packaging the best concepts for implementation. We will tend to one challenge at a time. This process is cyclical, as we test we learn more and we make changes until the best solution blooms.

05

Step Five: Ecosystem Design & Tending (Implementation)

In this final phase we will implement the solution into your business ecosystem, knowing it’s been researched and tested so you can feel good about making the changes. I’ll help you roll it out, make adjustments, and settle the dust that rises from the change.

Let’s change the world by designing it.

I've been a designer for nearly 15 years, and I've learned that the main challenges small businesses and nonprofits face stem from three areas: inefficient processes, a lack of tending, and unintentional choices. As a systems-focused designer, I believe problems are caused by systems, not individuals. They can be solved when people come together to design new solutions—true innovation that can change the world.

I also believe that the world only changes when we take small, intentional actions, together, that change our local ecosystems until they are all connected.
