Online Learning

Role: Brand Designer + Visual Communication Strategy | Web Design • Communication • Client Experience

Working with Amy from 123 Petits Pas was such. a. joy! Her energetic and musical presence and extensive knowledge of her parents was super encouraging for me as a mom. Her students are so lucky to have someone who cares about them and their experiences so deeply. As a bonus I was able to pick up a little french along the way! - On Y Va!

What got us started:

Amy wanted to create an online learning platform that allowed parents who didn’t live near her school to still practice French lessons with their kids. She had a thriving in-person roster and wanted to scale that into the online space. It was also important to her that the user experience was suitable for parents who were tired and busy with a toddler in their arms.

TEAM-DEVELOPED IDEAS:

We gathered all of the typical online learning ideas from platforms like Teachable to a fully hosted online learning platform. We thought about a private YouTube channel, a digital file that was delivered with the course lessons in a product model. The platform had to be as simple as possible, with the ability to play videos easily, access resources and meet up with the other parents who were participating. So we looked at platforms that could house all of those ideas.

PROPOSED SOLUTIONS:

We ultimately created her online learning platform as an extension of her current website by using LearnDash and Wordpress. Parents could click the “learn online” link on her main page to access a separate, on-brand virtual learning site. We created an easy to navigate flow with lots of reminders and links to get back to where they wanted to be, that way they didn’t have to do the extra work to remember where lessons were. Halfway through Amy decided to also add a teacher educator course which we were able to seamlessly add as a second course option.

OUTCOMES

The site ran smoothly and her parent-students loved it. They left glowing reviews. She instantly made back the cost of creating the site as parents rushed in on launch day. During our launch process the world shut down for a global pandemic and her online learning platform served as a lifeline for her business as she was no longer able to meet in person. Because of her ability to support parents online during shutdown and the success of the user-experience, the Canadian government gave her funds to build the site into an on-demand platform that schools could use to teach French in schools during future shutdowns. She brought me in to work on that project as well and her profits and notoriety are sky-rocketing!
